The Housemaid's Daughter

It's official! Welcome to the new cover for The Housemaid's Daughter!

The colours and design were chosen to represent the Karoo in all its moods, with local aloes and the iconic African acaia tree against a background of terracotta and sunset maroon. You may also just be able to make out a faint "watermark" of musical notes... I'm particularly pleased we could squeeze those in. All credit to the deigners for coming up with such an arresting image, capturing so much that is essential to the story.

Publication date for the Hardback and e-book in the UK is August of this year. Soon after that, the book will bepublished in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand in trade paperback. The UK paperback comes out in January 2013.

Who would have guessed when I started this blog in 2010 that we would be where we are today? A small self-published book, many hours of promoting it on my own and suddenly! it's going global and into translation! I feel incredibly lucky.

Next blog will be about the promo plans, and a video shoot. Keep reading...

  1. After I read 'The Poisonwood Bible' by Barabara Kingsolver, I often wondered which book would be able to move me as much as that one did. Well, I have just read that book. Karoo Plainsong. What an exquisite book. I ordered another 5 through Waterstones for gifts.
This book is a masterpiece. One I will read again and again and never forget. I wish it to be more successful than you ever dreamed possible.

  2. Thank you, Nicola! Apologies for not responding sooner, but I have only just spotted your comment! The paperback of The Housemaid's Daughter will be out in Jan 2013, so hope you will continue to spread the word for me. The book remains the same as the original, apart from being a little shorter, and crystallised here and there, and I think it is better for it. Kind regards, Barbara
