A Literary Expedition

Many of us belong to Book Clubs and enjoy our regular monthly meetings.
But how about going one step further?
How about arranging a weekend away to the setting of your favourite book, spending time walking in the footsteps of the hero and heroine, and then inviting the author to come and talk about how the book came into being?
(Plus, of course, having a wonderfully social get together at the same time!)

I call that a very civilised and erudite approach!

And it was my pleasure, recently, to be part of such an enterprise. I was invited to talk about The Girl from Simon's Bay to a group of lovely ladies who had decamped to Simon's Town to immerse themselves in the setting and ambience of the novel. It helps that Simon's Town is such a beautifully preserved town whose British naval heritage can still be seen in the buildings that line St George's street, and in the ships that fill the dockyard - more modern than those in the novel but still giving the sense of a naval town.

What a wonderful idea!
So if you fancy something a little different from regular meetings, why not consider an Away Weekend with good company and the chance to talk about things literary/novel-ish... it could start a trend!
